Selective Mutism

We have always thought our oldest was just painfully shy but now I have to wonder. According to some info I have read she may have extreme anxiety with selective mutism. It is difficult for me to comprehend but here are the resources I have found. To my family and friends that have been around R a lot, let me know what you think.

Oh we have a prayer request. We are taking R to the orthopedist Wednesday about her legs. She is worried that she may be in a brace and we are praying for super natural healing or at least no surgery. Thank you...

God is in control…

I read one of the articles and thought it was interesting that medication helps some of the children want to talk more. That gave validation to the idea of anxiety disorders having organic roots.
Not that I would medicate a child willy nilly.
Do you remember being carried into the schoolhouse? You were more verbal than R but you didn't want to be around people at times either. (moms side has anxiety issues and Bob isolated himself often, not sure why.)

Oh I do remember being so scared at school. I remember feeling very nervous, worried, and sick. I think I have blocked some because Chrissy told me about a time I got sick in school and everyone laughed at me (except her). I still sometimes get nauseous when I am nervous or worried.

Your mom had feelings like that too. She didn't like (or was scared of) one of her teachers in grade school and didn't want to go. Her stomach would get upset. I think more of the IBS symptoms than nausea.
Do I know Chrissy? It's nice that she didn't laugh.

Not sure if you remember her. Her name was Chrissy Cunningham. She has a different last name now. Not sure what it is though.
